Bismuth is a chemical element with the symbol Bi and atomic number 83. The free element is 86% as dense as lead. It is a brittle metal with a silvery-white color when freshly produced, but surface oxidation can give it an iridescent tinge in numerous colours.
Application::
- Opacifier in X-ray diagnosis, enamel fluxes, ceramic glazesBismuth carbonate oxide is used in ceramic glazes and pearly coatings on plastics. It is also used as an antacid and anti-diarrheal in medicinal chemistry. Further, it is used as a filler in radiopaque catheters. It is also employed in fireworks and to make Dragon's eggs. In addition to this, it is made into nanotube arrays that exhibit antibacterial properties.
Dose::
The usual recommended dose for adults is 525 mg (2 tablets) every 30 minutes as needed, up to a maximum of 16 tablets in 24 hours.
